Monica Tippens

Monica Tippens serves as a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor at Black Mothers’ Breastfeeding Association, supporting mothers from the postpartum period through their breastfeeding journey until they decide to wean. She provides bedside support during the golden hours after delivery, works within women’s clinics at Henry Ford Health System, hosts breastfeeding educational classes and Breastfeeding Club sessions, and represents BMBFA at community events across the metro Detroit area. She also supports families during home and community visits, ensuring guidance and care wherever it is needed.

As part of BMBFA’s community-facing team, Monica has supported over 250 mothers in the past year, ensuring continuity of care across clinical and community settings. She is certified in African American postpartum care and serves as a Community Liaison for the Detroit Health Department, where she helps connect families to breastfeeding education, resources, and ongoing community support.
