Black Mothers’ Breastfeeding Club (BMBFC)

Black Mothers’ Breastfeeding Club (BMBFC) is the signature program of Black Mothers’ Breastfeeding Association (BMBFA). Launched in 2008, BMBFC began as a safe and supportive space for Black mothers to connect, share experiences, and build community around the journey of pregnancy, breastfeeding and motherhood. What started as a small local gathering has now expanded into a powerful network that continues to grow and uplift families across Detroit and beyond. BMBFC is a mom-led program, meaning mothers are at the heart of the conversation and leadership. This approach ensures that the program remains grounded in the real experiences, wisdom, and needs of Black mothers. By centering moms as leaders, we strengthen our collective voice and empower families to take charge of their breastfeeding and parenting journeys.

Today, we proudly host both virtual and in-person sessions monthly:

  • A virtual session held via Zoom, providing accessibility for mothers wherever they are.

  • An in-person session offering space for hands-on connection, shared meals, and sisterhood.

  • During the spring and summer months, we take BMBFC outdoors with “BMBFC in the Park” a seasonal initiative designed to expand our reach into different neighborhoods and create joyful, welcoming spaces for families to gather in nature.
