Community-Based Doula Program

Black Mothers’ Breastfeeding Association (BMBFA) Community-based Doula Program is a free home-visiting service that connects pregnant mothers in Detroit with trained community birth workers. Our doulas provide compassionate, culturally aligned care designed to improve birth experiences and outcomes for Black families.

Our doulas support mothers by:

  • Offering guidance and emotional support throughout pregnancy and early postpartum

  • Helping prepare mothers for labor and delivery

  • Providing hands-on, continuous support during labor and birth

  • Assisting with newborn care and adjustment at home

  • Connecting families with local resources and community services

BMBFA’s community-based doulas meet families where they are, literally and emotionally, bridging social and cultural gaps in maternal care.
